They say, they were much better than this present generation to handle difficult problems of life.
In this 19 springs that I have spent in this earth, I have met many an elder persons who says they were better than us in their time to face hardship. I would like to concentrate my view in case of academic. I have heard many teachers to say that in their time questions were difficult. If none takes any offense, then my answer is 'no'. The more the human civilization takes stride towards better future, its effect comes directly into academic. It ask for more complicated brain teasing probs. as technology is evolving. It makes me to laugh that they expect rather easier questions instead.
In my 19-2=17 years of academic career, I have seen many examples, like in 1950-65, which questions were asked in exams in B.Com. level, now a class IV student face the similar problem or to be precise I have met many. I had a better experience when I was preparing to get entrance into the Premiere Institutes of India. In 1970-2012, which questions were asked in IIT entrance, now a class XII student face that similar problem in H.S. exam!!! And in IIT entrance, we face more complicated problems that can hardly be imagined to be implemented in exams in those distant days.
And I think the future will also face harder problems than us!
